Kanban Special
If you are using Kanban methodologies for your product development or support, please refer to the following quick guide to understand the basics and how to start using Capacity Tracker for Kanban style projects.
Kanban Board
Kanban is on-demand and continuous work methodology. It does not use fixed iterations like sprints. However work predictability, efficient work distribution, and timely completion are key metrics in Kanban too. Since Kanban does not have fixed iterations, we introduced supporting Capacity Tracker for Kanban with versions.
Create Versions
Create a version with start and end date. Kanban is a continuous workflow hence we need a time duration for which you want to calculate the capacity and track the work allocation. We use Jira’s version feature to timebox the Kanban and help you track the team capacity and work allocation during those timebox iterations. You can define as many versions as you wish, depending on your project operations and demands.
Note: Capacity Tracker only shows versions that are unreleased.
Estimate Stories/Tasks
Use Jira’s default time tracking feature and “Remaining Estimates“ field if you are using hours based estimation method.
Use Jira’s default “Story Points” field to estimate the stories if you are using Story Point and Sizing based estimation method.
Work Allocation
Ensure all stories/tasks/sub-tasks are allocated to team members.
Add Versions to Stories/Tasks
You can add version to stories/tasks from the board view.
You can also add version to the story/task from detailed story/task view.
